Remarkably tolerant of brackish habitat, it is also one of the country's most defensive pit vipers, with potent hemotoxic venom. A high-humidity, advanced-keeper species demanding constant respect.

In the Wild

Habitat
Arboreal. Mangrove forests, tidal creek margins and coastal lowland forest. Sea level only. Found along the entire Thai coastline.
Wild Diet
Frogs, fish, lizards & small mammals. Highly tolerant of saltwater-adjacent environments.

Captive Care

Captive Diet
Pre-killed mice or fish pieces. Juveniles every 7 days; adults every 10 – 14 days.
Temperature
26 – 30 °C ambient — 24 °C cool end
Humidity
75 – 90 %. High humidity critical; daily misting. Provide a large water bowl.
UV Requirements
Low (nocturnal). UVI 0 – 1.0.
Enclosure
Arboreal / vertical. Min 60 × 60 × 90 cm. Mangrove-style hides and cork bark branches.
Temperament
Can be highly aggressive. Distinctive purple-grey colouration. One of the most defensive Thai pit vipers.
