Gumprecht's Pit Viper (Trimeresurus gumprechti) is a striking green arboreal serpent of Thailand's montane cloud forests, thriving in cool highland bamboo above 600 metres. A nocturnal ambush predator with hemotoxic venom, it demands genuinely cool temperatures to survive, since overheating is fatal. A demanding, beautiful species strictly for advanced, well-prepared keepers.

In the Wild

Habitat
Arboreal. Montane cloud forests and highland bamboo at 600 – 2,500 m elevation. Northern mountain ranges of Thailand.
Wild Diet
Small mammals, birds, lizards & frogs. Nocturnal arboreal ambush predator.

Captive Care

Captive Diet
Pre-killed mice or rats. Juveniles every 7 days; adults every 10 – 14 days.
Temperature
20 – 24 °C ambient — 18 – 20 °C cool end
Humidity
75 – 90 %. Daily misting; strong ventilation essential to prevent respiratory infections.
UV Requirements
Low (nocturnal). UVI 0 – 1.0. Low-level UVB (T5 2.0) optional.
Enclosure
Arboreal / vertical. Min 60 × 60 × 90 cm. Cool temperatures are critical — overheating is fatal.
Temperament
Moderately defensive. Settles with routine. Never expose to temperatures above 26 °C.
