The White Lip Pit Viper (Trimeresurus albolabris) is a slender, emerald arboreal ambusher of Thai bamboo groves and forest edges, named for the crisp white stripe along its lip. Coiled motionless among vegetation, it strikes lizards and rodents with hemotoxic venom. A medically significant species reserved strictly for advanced keepers worldwide.

In the Wild

Habitat
Arboreal. Tropical & subtropical forest edges, bamboo groves, gardens and urban green spaces. 0 – 1,200 m elevation.
Wild Diet
Lizards, frogs, small rodents & birds. Ambush predator — strikes from coiled position in vegetation.

Captive Care

Captive Diet
Pre-killed mice or rats. Juveniles every 7 days; adults every 10 – 14 days.
Temperature
24 – 28 °C ambient — 22 °C cool end
Humidity
70 – 90 %. Daily misting; provide a deep water bowl for soaking.
UV Requirements
Low requirement (nocturnal). UVI 0 – 1.0 adequate. Low-level UVB (T5 2.0) optional but beneficial.
Enclosure
Arboreal / vertical layout. Minimum 60 × 60 × 90 cm for adults. Climbing branches and elevated hides essential.
Temperament
Defensive when disturbed. Individual variation. Allow 4 – 6 weeks to acclimate before handling.
