The Red-eyed Crocodile Skink (Tribolonotus novaeguineae) is a captive-bred, armoured little lizard from New Guinea rainforest, distinguished by the vivid red-orange ring encircling each eye. Shy, secretive and harmless, it vocalises with squeaks when stressed, a rare trait among skinks, and thrives in a moist bioactive enclosure. A captivating, manageable species for keepers.

Captive Care

Captive Diet
Live or fresh-killed earthworms, crickets, isopods & waxworms. Every 2 – 3 days. Calcium supplementation essential.

24 – 27 °C ambient — 22 °C cool end

85 – 95 %. Daily misting; permanently moist substrate.
UV Requirements
Very low (crepuscular / nocturnal). UVI 0 – 0.5. Low UVB beneficial.
Enclosure
Terrestrial. Min 60 × 45 × 30 cm. Bioactive substrate with cork bark and sphagnum moss hides.
Temperament
Shy and secretive. Vocalises when stressed. Red orbital ring distinguishes this from white-eyed form.
