Harmless and docile enough to handle, it thrives only in cool montane conditions. A strikingly patterned, rewarding species for intermediate keepers prepared to keep temperatures genuinely low.

Habitat
Terrestrial to semi-arboreal. Montane forest and bamboo, 500 – 1,800 m. Northern Thailand and adjacent Myanmar — Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son highlands.
Wild Diet
Small rodents, lizards & shrews. Crepuscular to nocturnal terrestrial hunter.

Pre-killed mice or rats. Adults every 7 – 10 days.

18 – 24 °C ambient — 16 – 18 °C cool end
Humidity
70 – 85 %. Regular misting.
UV Requirements
Low to moderate. UVI 0.5 – 2.0.

Terrestrial / semi-arboreal. Min 90 × 45 × 45 cm. Cool montane setup — same requirements as coxi.
Temperament
Docile and handleable. Bold broad banding makes this subspecies highly distinctive.
