In the Wild

Habitat
Terrestrial to semi-arboreal. Montane forest and bamboo at 600 – 2,000 m. Cool highland forests of northern Thailand — Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Nan.
Wild Diet
Small rodents (mice and rats) primarily. Occasionally lizards and shrews.

Captive Care

Captive Diet
Pre-killed mice or rats. Adults every 7 – 10 days. Excellent feeder.

18 – 24 °C ambient — 16 – 18 °C cool end
Humidity
70 – 85 %. Regular misting; cool humid conditions essential.
UV Requirements
Low to moderate. UVI 0.5 – 2.0. Benefits from UVB in cooler setups.
Enclosure
Terrestrial / semi-arboreal. Min 90 × 45 × 45 cm. COOL temperatures are the most critical factor — overheating causes rapid decline.
Temperament
Docile and handleable. One of the most rewarding Thai colubrids to keep. Stunning red colouration.
