The Green Cat Snake (Boiga cyanea) is a slender, vivid green arboreal hunter found across Thailand, slipping through foliage at night in search of geckos, frogs and nestlings. Rear-fanged but harmless to healthy adults, it can be defensive when young yet calms beautifully with gentle, regular handling. A rewarding intermediate display snake.

In the Wild

Habitat

Arboreal. Tropical and subtropical forests, forest edges, gardens and plantations. 0 – 1,500 m. Found throughout Thailand.

Wild Diet

Geckos, lizards, frogs, small birds & nestlings. Nocturnal arboreal hunter.

Captive Care

Captive Diet

Pre-killed lizards or small mice. Adults every 7 – 10 days. Can be reluctant to switch to mice — scent prey with lizard.

Temperature

26 – 30 °C ambient — 24 °C cool end

Humidity

65 – 80 %. Misting 3 – 4× per week.

UV Requirements

Low (nocturnal). UVI 0 – 1.0.

Enclosure

Arboreal / vertical. Min 60 × 60 × 90 cm. Dense foliage and multiple perch branches.

Temperament

Can be defensive when young; generally calms well with regular gentle handling.
